Head of Maternity and Neonatal Safety, NHS England and NHS Improvement
Michele is Head of Maternity and Neonatal Safety in the Maternity Transformation Programme team in NHS England and NHS Improvement. Having trained in South Africa before moving to England over 25 years ago, she is a registered general nurse, midwife and neonatal nurse with extensive experience in patient safety and quality improvement.
Her role at NHS England and NHS Improvement is varied and includes leadership of Workstream 2 – Improving Practice for Safer Care which she undertakes in partnership with Nicky Lyon as service user representative. Michele also advises on and leads the delivery of new maternity and neonatal policy initiatives.
Michele is best known for her leadership of Atain – a programme of work undertaken in collaboration with frontline clinical experts, parents and baby charities to lever system-wide change and improvement by understanding preventable factors leading to full-term babies being admitted to neonatal units.
