Gift aid is a government scheme whereby some of the tax that donors pay is given back to us by the Revenue and Customs when the donors donate money to us. The amount we get is currently 25p for every £1 donated, so we really really encourage UK taxpayers to tick the gift aid box on sponsor forms so we can get this money.
Gift aid is very important to us – money that is vital for our work.
If you are taking part in a sponsored event or asking people to make donations please ask supporters who work in the UK (and pay tax in the UK) to tick the ‘giftaid’ box on the form and fill in their full address details.
In many larger companies, a match giving scheme is in operation whereby the employer will match your fundraising income pound for pound. This is an easy way to double your income! Check whether your employer operates a match giving scheme – either the HR or finance department should know.
Sending money in
First of all we really encourage people to set up an online fundraising form. This means that donations come straight to us and you don’t have to do anything except thank your supporters. If you have a fundraising page you may still receive ‘offline’ donations – cash or cheques from friends or relatives. To help us put your money to work immediately, we encourage you to send in these donations when you receive them.
If you don’t have a fundraising page we would still encourage you to do the same.
Ways to pay
Please do not send cash in the post – keep the cash and send us the money one of the ways below
By post: If you receive cheques made out to you, please bank them and make a new one out to us with your cheque book. We will also need your name and the name of your event so we can allocate the cheque to your total. If your sponsorer is a UK tax payer, we need their full name and full address so we can claim gift aid. You can download sponsorship forms here with spaces for address and gift aid.
By phone (with your credit/debit card): Call 01676 534671 and we can take the money over the phone. If you give us your name and the name of your event we will add it to your total. If your sponsorer is a UK tax payer, we need their full name and full address so we can claim gift aid. You can download sponsorship forms here with spaces for address and gift aid.
If you haven’t sent us your donations as you received them, we would very much appreciate it if you could send in any money within four weeks of the event ending.
Otherwise we will have to get in touch and this means extra administration and thereby cost for us – we really do not want to spend the money you raise chasing it! We want it to go straight to helping save babies’ lives
