The Baby Bean Appeal is formed by Baby Lifeline, Philips Footprints, and Friends of SCBU, and aims to raise over £105,000.
Dame Barbara Windsor, Nick Owen, Jonny Labey, Shaun Rankin, and designer Elizabeth Emanuel have backed a brand new high profile appeal to raise £105,000 for 5 much needed wireless fetal monitors for Jersey General Hospital’s Maternity Unit.
The fetal monitors will provide greater freedom of movement for expectant women during labour; those with high-risk pregnancies will have an increased chance of a normal birth, as they may be able to use a birthing pool, which is not an option with existing monitoring equipment. The use of a pool is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as providing a positive birthing experience for the mothers and their families.
Founder and CEO of Baby Lifeline, Judy Ledger, has said that “we know that effective fetal monitoring in labour is one of the key elements of care for mothers-to-be and their newborns. Jersey’s Maternity Unit doesn’t yet have any wireless monitors and we’re delighted to launch this campaign. If we can raise our target this will enable us to buy 5 wireless fetal monitors for the benefit of many of Jersey’s mums-to-be and that would be amazing.”
