Co-founder Campaign for Safer Births
User Co-chair Maternity Transformation Programme Safety Workstream
Nicky’s son Harry suffered profound brain damage following failures in care during her low risk term labour. After a difficult life of tube feeding, sickness, fits and discomfort Harry died of a chest infection aged 18 months. Since this tragic event Nicky has devoted her time to investigating maternity safety and campaigning for improvements.
In 2013 Nicky co-founded the Campaign for Safer Births with Michelle Hemmington. They campaign for improvements in maternity safety and for robust, independent investigations with parent involvement. Nicky is a user representative on various NHS maternity steering groups and has been a parent representative on the RCOG Each Baby Counts Advisory Group since the programme began. In January 2019 Nicky was appointed User Co-Chair of the Maternity Transformation Programme (MTP) Safety Workstream Board.
A Genetics graduate, Nicky’s working background is as a manager in planning, management information and resource scheduling.
